Fab Friday: 17th

It’s cold. Well, it’s probably not cold for people living in temperate climes, but it’s cold for me. I’m a child of the tropics, and although I wax lyrical about the cold weather, I tend to feel cold quickly, and I layer on the layers when I’m abroad and other people are walking around in short sleeves. So yes, you’ve got that right; I am simultaneously fascinated by – and extremely sensitive to – the cold.

This past week I’ve been ogling kitchens that are not my own; specifically, I’ve been ogling this list of beach vacation rentals with stunning kitchens. My favourites (in this order) are 1, 7, and 6. I’m dreaming of getting away and of holidays and leaving Chennai behind, so this comes at a wonderful time. Imagine waking up to one of those kitchens everyday, or at least for a while. Bliss.

In other news, I set up a Twitter account for my bakery. It’s still in its infancy, but I’m going to use it to amplify my bakery projects. Currently it’s informing people about all my special Christmas offers! So if you’re based in Chennai and you want to order these sweet treats, please feel free to do so!

In cake-related news, I am fascinated with this white velvet cake over at Taste Australia. Look at it; it looks luscious and decadent and somehow more than its red cousin, red velvet cake. I think I need to add this to the ‘must try’ list.

Oh, and because I’m fascinated with the science behind baking, I loved this video from ChefSteps over at PBS. It’s about how croissant dough works, and how the tender flaking that everyone loves is achieved. Take a look at the mixing, kneading, resting, folding, and rolling process behind croissant magic.

And finally, I wish I were with my heart in London so that I could go to this. If you’re in London, you should go. Natalie Coleman is lovely, and that show looks a little bit magical.

    All those kitchens are stunning one way or another. My favourites are 4 & 5. Just to sit and watch the world go by with some great food and an ice cold white wine or maybe a G&T – wonderfully simple !
