Egg and Chips

Is there anything better than thick cut chips from floury potatoes fried to a beautiful sunny gold and fried eggs with delicious yolk still warm and runny to dip your chips into? I mean, I know there are foodies and gourmands out there who will disagree with me, but think about it. When the chips are down (hur hur) and the day has been long and hard, when your mood is bleak at best and you need comforting, what do you turn to?

For me it’s either egg and chips or a stack of wholemeal bread toasted to a gorgeous brown with delicious yellow butter spread on it to melt, and a cup of tea. That’s my go-to food which is both comfortable and comforting, and I know when I’m eating it that I probably haven’t had the best of times, but then things just start to look a little less bleak. The darkness drifts awayΒ and the sun starts to shine, the cockles of my heart start to thaw, and everything just looks a little better on the other side of it.

What food comforts you?

I love dipping chips in egg. Penetrating the delicate yolk, so that it oozes out all over the plate.

    Nom nom nom nom nom.

Mm! I’m so glad I’m not the only one who adores egg and chips. πŸ™‚

Oh my god, don’t talk to me about tea and toast! I adore it… but it just isn’t the same with gluten free toast. πŸ™

Aw. πŸ™ I wish you could have proper toast. I’ve never tried gluten free, I must admit. I’ve no idea what it tastes like. I presume it just tastes like bread without the delicious gorgeous breadiness that makes bread – well – bread. *laugh*

Have never tried the egg and chips, but I adore toast with yummy butter. It’s so very basic, but a wonderful way to be comforted πŸ™‚ If I were to really cheat and were in need of comfort I’d probably have some grits (specific to the southern U.S.) and scrambled eggs with some hot cocoa! However, because of the diabetes I almost never allow myself to have grits or real cocoa! Now I’d love some of that toast, please πŸ˜‰
